God is faithful to his promises

I don't like to let anyone know when I am in need of money for personal means but don't seems to find any.  Philippians 4: 6-7 says - “Don’t worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking Him with a thankful heart ..... And God’s peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus.”  This text is always my guide and encouragement when I am in this situation.

At home it’s just my husband and I.  All our five children have their own families and are living in their own homes except one of our sons who is single but studying in New Zealand. Well, one Saturday evening, being responsible for household matters especially foodstuff, I had no money to buy us some meat for the Sunday.  I never told any of my children even my husband.  My main concern was not food but my church offering for Sunday; for, I have pledged certain amount of monthly offering for the Lord’s service, to be offered weekly every Sunday.

I did not pray for the money I needed as one would normally do.  But in my heart I said, whatever edible stuff, we have in our stock, is what God wants us to have on Sunday.  At least they won’t hurt or kill us. I know I was in a prayerful mood. The thing that I regretted was that I did not set aside the pledged weekly offering amount during the week when I had the money; but how did I forget?

Later in the evening, someone came over and ask to use my computer. And after he finished he came to where I was sitting, saying goodbye, he put the exact amount of money that I needed for my offering on Sunday, in my hand. I stared at him as if I was seeing a ghost. He rushed off saying - don’t worry about it, its not mine, it’s from my work, and it is to thank you.

I then said, “Lord thank you.” But the devil amazingly said in my heart, “God had supplied money for your food." In resistance I said, “No way, it is for my offering, I already have something to eat on Sunday, and they don’t have to be special food, just because it is a Sunday.  Therefore, get off my back Satan, and leave me alone, for God is my Father, my keeper and my provider, and God will provide according to His Will.”

About one hour later, one of my daughters brought a three feet long fish, and a tin beef. And about 20 minutes later after that, another of my daughters brought a big piece of tuna fish for Sunday. Then my husband came back from town some minutes later with another tin beef. And on Sunday morning my other daughter, brought her family, with their Sunday food to be cooked at home with more food, meat, feke and seashells (to’o).  Food just flooded in, and it should last the whole week.

I said, Lord, you are so merciful, also faithful to your words, for Mathew 6:31-34 say “... do not start worrying: where my food comes from, or my drink or my clothes…. (These are the things we always concerned about). Your Father in heaven knows that you need all these things…..Instead, be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what he requires of you, and he will provide you with all these other things……So do not worry about tomorrow;  it will have enough worries of its own.  There is no need to add to the troubles each day brings.”

This is not the first time God has done such for me. He had done it so many times, but each time it seems like a first. It always marvelled me; and Mathew 6:31- 34 always remind me of the providence of my loving Father God.

It is the Lord’s covenant with His followers. He says in effect, “If you will put God’s interests first in your life, I will guarantee your further needs. If you seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, then I will see that you never lack the necessities of life. This is God’s social security program.

The believer’s responsibility is to live for the Lord, trusting God for the future with unshakable confidence that He will provide according to His Promise. Here, we are called to live one day at a time:  tomorrow can worry about its own things.  JUST TRUST GOD AND HIS PROMISES!!
